Father of the Bride House

Had a request today from a co-worker to post the location of the Father of the Bride house . Even though in the movie Steve Martin proclaims that he lives in the town of San Marino, his character’s home is actually located a short distance north of San Marino, in Pasadena. The home is beautiful in person, and looks exactly the same as it did in the movie. But rumor has it that before filming began the house was in bad shape. The filmmakers came in and repainted the exterior, added new landscaping and a white picket fence, and the rest, as they say, is movie history. The house came up for sale in 1999 and the realtor marketed it as the “Father of the Bride House” causing “stalkers” to flock to the open house in droves! I so wish I had lived in Southern California at that time so I could have toured it!

The filmmakers also returned to the same house in 1995 to shoot the sequel, Father of the Bride II.

I discovered this filming location in “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book” by William A. Gordon – a must have stalking guide for Southern California!

Stalk It: The Father of the Bride house is located at 843 S. El Molino Ave. in Pasadena, off of Colorado Blvd. You can purchase “The Ultimate Hollywood Tour Book” on Amazon. The book is updated and republished with new information almost every year. And yes, I have almost every updated version. 🙂

  1. Always gets to me when they don’t pay attention to exterior details to match interiors…one that really got me was that in neither house is there a fireplace on the outside but in the interior shots there is one in the LP & a corner one in the DR….guess I just pay attention to details like that..

  2. I lived in alhambra at the time of shooting the house is located on almansor st just south of alhambra rd during the shooting of the sequel I saw film crews and asked what are they filming and was told father of the bride 2

    1. The house on Almansor st was only used to film the backyard scene when they played basket ball. The front of the house was filmed in Pasadena. The Amansor st house was also the house in the movie Guess Who with Ashton Kutcher and Berni Mac

  3. This house also looks like the one in “Catch Me If You Can” in which Leonardo DiCaprio’s character saw his mother after he had escaped from the plane near the end of the film…with the addition of snow.

    1. This house is actually on California Blvd. in San Marino. I’ve seen several film trucks and trailers on that part of the street from time to time.

      1. No, it is the house on El Molino as stated in the post. Drive by and you will see, if you watch the movie you will also recognize the street and the surrounding houses.

  4. No – Ian’s house is The Iny Estate located in Encino. The McKinsey’s house from Father of the Bride is actually Sonny and Cher’s former home located at 364 St. Cloud Road in Bel Air.
