Brooks Memorial Home for the Aged from “Miracle on 34th Street” Has Finally Been Found!

I am ecstatic to report that Brooks Memorial Home for the Aged, where Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) lived in the 1947 holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street, has finally been identified!  Sadly, though, it is no longer standing. Watch my latest reel to discover where filming took place.

TL; DW – The now-defunct Black-Foxe Military Academy, formerly located at 637 North Wilcox Avenue in Los Angeles’ Hancock Park, played the facility onscreen.

  1. Hi Lindsay!

Thank you SO, SO MUCH for this! I have been looking everywhere for the location of the house. I can’t thank you enough! You have really made my day! 🙂 All the best to you!

  2. Hi Lindsay,

I’m a huge fan of your blog and have discovered many of my favorite movie and TV filming locations thanks to your diligent research. You’re the first place I turn when trying to track down a location! Thank you for all of the insightful work you do!

There is one particular location that has stumped and frustrated me for years, however. In The Mentalist, Patrick Jane’s stunning mid-century Malibu house has given me quite the headache! Despite countless hours searching every corner of the internet, I simply cannot uncover the actual (residential) home used in establishing shots. The house I am talking about is the one featured on e.g. the episode ‘Fire and Brimstone’.

I was hoping that maybe, with your superb location scouting skills, you could lend a hand in cracking this mystery. It would seriously make my day if I could finally put a name and address to this architectural gem. Any pointers or leads would be hugely appreciated!

Keep up the stellar blog – you have one devoted reader in me!

    Best,
    Greta ♥️

    1. Hi Greta!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I really appreciate it! And so glad to hear that you like my blog. As it turns out, Patrick Janes’ house is in Altadena at 1533 East Altadena Drive, just down the road from the Walsh residence from “Beverly Hills, 90210.” 🙂 It was designed by architect Caspar Johann Ehmcke in 1950 and according to a 2009 real estate listing is regularly used for filming.
Thanks for the challenge to find it! I didn’t remember Patrick’s house exterior ever being shown on “The Mentalist,” which is surprising cause it sure it spectacular!
      Best,
      Lindsay
